Friday Favorites - February 8, 2019

Happy Friday, Friends!

What a long week it's been!  Let's jump right into a few favorites from this week.

One

First off is Kambree learning how to ride her bike without training wheels.  She has talked about this for a while now and she finally did it.  This has made me smile all week long.

Two

On Tuesday night our Keno group started up for the year.  I don't have any pictures but just know it's a great time.  My friend, Linda, is in our group and I haven't seen her in weeks.  We had a great time and I came home with two fun prizes too.

 Three

The 100th Day of School was celebrated this week.  I just wanna know how it's not the 325th day of school!  It feels like it's been so long!  I really stressed about this day because last year I made a shirt with 100 smiley face buttons glued on it and I just couldn't pull that off this year.  I think we nailed it!  Kambree makes the cutest 100yr old lady.

Four

Girl Scout Cookie time is here!  Kambree really likes the Thin Mint but give me and David all the Samoas.  They are so darn good.  A couple of Samoas make a bad day feel good.

 Five

I made Mississippi Chicken Thighs in the crockpot last Sunday and they were so delicious.  This isn't a health food at all but it is a delicious food.  We at the chicken with a baked potato one night and we made tacos out of it the next night.  Here is the recipe from Recipes That Crock

Mississippi Chicken Thighs

Ingredients:
3 lbs Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
1 envelope Ranch Dressing Mix
1 envelope Au Jus Gravy Mix or Brown Gravy Mix
1/2 Stick of Butter
6 Pepperoncinis

1. Lay chicken thighs in the bottom of your slow cooker.
2. Sprinkle mixes on top.
3. Slice butter and place evenly on top.
4. Add peppers.

5. Cook on low for 4-5 hours.

When I made it this time I couldn't find the original recipe so I improvised.  Y'all, I put an entire stick of butter on top of the chicken and I left out the pepperoncinis and we weren't mad about anything.  It was delicious!  This was not boring chicken.

That wraps up a few things that have made me smile this week.  I hope you have a great weekend!

Two Wheelin'

Hello!

Y'all I totally jinxed us!  I know there's no such thing, but I bragged on how well our nighttime routine was going and then it all fell apart.  I have had to lay with Kambree the last two nights and last night she woke up and got in our bed.  I'm not mad about it and I enjoyed cuddling with her, but goodness we had made such progress.

Kambree revealed that when she was at her friends on Sunday they watched a few minutes of a scary movie.  There are some kids that can see a few minutes of something scary but our kid isn't one of those kids.  Her imagination is so vivid that she just can't watch scary stuff.  We are real careful at our house but gosh we can't be everywhere.

The good thing is that once I agree to lay with her she'll go right to sleep.  Especially since the weather has been fantastic and she has been doing lots of playing outside.  She has been determined to ride her bike without training wheels and yesterday she did it!  David text me this video and said "our girl is riding without training wheels".

Friends, I was so excited to get this video and to see her having so much fun.  Y'all, I love David cheering her on as much as I love seeing her ride that bike.  I have watched this video on repeat and I just love it so much.  I think Kambree will always be "Baby Girl" to her Daddy and I am not made about it.

Did you grow up riding a bike?  I grew up on a street with lots of girls my age and we did lots of bike riding.  There are so many memories!

January '19 - February '19

Hello friends!

I'm here today with a look back at January and a look into February.  Have you heard of Kendra at The Lazy Genius Collective ?  Kendra has a blog and a podcast and she shares tips for all of life.  Her podcast is a favorite of mine and her Instagram is fun too. Kendra's tagline is:

Be a genius about the things that matter and lazy about the things that don’t.

Early in January she shared a PDF called Lazy Genius Goal Setting and I had planned to blog about this last Thursday but as you'll read below that didn't work out.  Let's get this goal setting started.

Looking Back on Last Month

What filled me up?

A renewed focus on praise.  I have really been working on wearing the garment of praise and this has really improved my mindset this month.  Read more about what opened my eyes to my need to praise more yolandamclean.com

What drained me?

There has been a difficult circumstance in our home this month.  I don't feel led to share any details but it has left me feeling exhausted.

What did I set out to do that didn’t really matter?

I had some blogging link-ups planned and in my exhaustion I didn't get them done. I was very bummed to have missed the linkups but it didn't matter one bit!

What’s something I can celebrate?

Our nighttime routine is going great!  Kambree has gone to bed without me laying with her for almost two weeks and she has stayed in her bed all night long for almost a month.  She will even wake up and go to the bathroom and get back in her bed.  We are so proud of her!

What can I let go of next month?

I can let go of feeling bad for not getting together with friends as often as I would have liked.  This month just wasn't the month.  I have some intentional friend time planned in March and I'll work on some opportunities in February.

Looking Ahead to Next Month

What am I excited about?

I'm excited for several Saturday's free of plans and some spring like weather

How can I give myself margin?

I can meal plan and stay ahead on laundry.  By not falling behind I can give myself margin for calm.  I can also allow myself to do NOTHING when the opportunity presents itself.

What will I be so glad I did?

I have started a bible study that meets at noon on Wednesday's.  I can tell that I'll get a lot out of this study.

What does my body and soul need?

I need to walk a mile - and go up from there, but my foot is still not well.  I just need to move!  My soul needs to rest and trust in the Lord.

How can I love my people well?

I can be more patient.  Does anyone prepare a meal and your people knew you were preparing the meal then when it's time to eat they act surprised that it's time to eat?  This makes me crazy!  I am not very patient when I ask David or Kambree to do something, so I could love my people well by being more patient.

How was your January?  Any hopes for February?  Leave me a comment and tell me about some of your goals.  Thanks for reading today.
